Watch 78-Year-Old Blues Granny Shred Guitar On ‘Little Big Shots’

Music by Lucille Barilla on July 14, 2017

“Little Big Shots: Forever Young” features some of the most talented seniors in America. So it wasn’t surprising when Beverly Watkins took the stage, guitar in hand. What shocked the audience and show host Steve Harvey was her dexterity on the instrument and the tricks she performed as she played.

The Atlanta, Georgia resident had a Squier Stratocaster in hand and seemed ready to blow the roof off of the theater. The 78-year-old Watkins shredded on the guitar, shocking host Harvey to the core as he watched in amazement. She also sang, danced and played the guitar behind her head.

Watkins is known affectionately in the south as “Guitar.” She fronts her own band called Beverly Guitar Watkins and the King Bees and has been playing the instrument for over 60 years. She has worked with blues legends B.B. King, Ray Charles and James Brown. Watch her inspiring performance below.
