Most People Have Heard Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway To Heaven”, But Many Don’t Know The Story Behind It
It has been reported the Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant wrote the iconic song “Stairway to Heaven” within minutes. In several interviews, he said that the words just flowed to him and he kept writing. For some famous musicians and artists, it takes them several days, even weeks, to work on some of their hit songs. Jimmy Page finally revealed the writing process behind “Stairway to Heaven.”
The legendary guitarist sat down for an interview with BBC News back in 2014. He gave an actual account of how the song came together. Page also addressed some of the outlandish rumors associated with the song. For example, some religions claimed you can hear a satanic message when the song is played backward.
Page hinted that the song’s meaning is up for interpretation. When Plant wrote the song, he did hold a spiritual meaning behind it. Since the song is 8 minutes long, it never topped the charts and was never released as a single. Page’s performed his guitar solo on a 1958 Fender Telecaster. He recorded three different solos and chose the best one for the song.
