Country Icon Dolly Parton’s Classic ‘Jolene’ Sounds Amazing When Slowed Down To 33 RPM!
If you have been exposed to hearing the unique sounds of a “vintage” record player with its cool, raw, grittiness, then you know how amazing a track can sound when its spinning and doing its “thang.” Well, one die-hard Dolly Parton fan decided to slow things down not just a bit, but a lot – 33 rpm during her classic, “Jolene” and it sounds amazing!
Many said the slower version has a Tracy Chapman-feel to it. “Couldn’t agree more,” commented one fan. “Liking the slowed down version which has a Tracy Chapman vibe.” To be clear, not every record sounds pleasing to the ears when played backwards or spun more slowly than recommended. Yet this 45 of Parton’s 1973 hit has been said to be so different than the original that it almost “reframes the narrative.”
According to The New Yorker’s Andrea DenHoed, this slower spin on the song transforms Parton’s “baby-high soprano into something deep, soulful and seemingly, male.” Check out the Country icon’s hit in slow motion and see if you like it too…
