The Academy Awards is one of the most prestigious awards shows in the celebrity calender. It’s also a massive night for fashion and there’s speculation surrounding the star’s dresses a long time before they hit the red carpet. The Oscars is a night to dress to the nines and no dress is too big or too glamorous for the night. These ladies lead the style pack when in comes to Oscars gowns and we think you will agree they have set the bar very high indeed.

angelina-jolie-2012-oscarsWe know it was only last year that Angie displayed her famous leg in this gorgeous black gown but it will go down in history as one of the most talked about Oscars dresses of all time (and bizarre moments too). Her leg even managed to get its own Twitter.

*Mar 07 - 00:05*In 2010 Zoe Saldana stepped out in this magical Givenchy creation with a glittery bodice, leg split and heaps of purple ruffles in violet, indigo and lavender.

sarah-jessica-parker-oscars2009-01Sarah Jessica Parker attended the 2009 Academy Awards in cleavage enhancing Dior Haute Couture. This fairy tale gown is the ultimate Oscars frock and only our SJP could pull off something this amazing.

beyonce-black-dress-oscars-2009-3Beyonce pulled out all the stops in 2009 and wore a creation from her own line House of Dereon. The singers figure looks perfection in this black and gold gown and it really doesn’t need any accessorising it just speaks for itself.

heidiklum-2008-oscarsHeidi Klum wore the most spectacular red dress we have ever seen at the awards ceremony in 2008. The Galliano creation was auctioned of after the show for charity.

220881-penelope-cruz-2007-atelier-versacePenelope Cruz glided down the red carpet in Atelier Versace in 2007. This blush pink frothy frock is red carpet perfection, Penelope just proves that neutrals do not have to be boring.

Last year's Best Actress winner CharlizeCharlize Theron opted for powder blue Christian Dior ruffles in 2005, not a colour we would normally see on the red carpet so it makes it rather unique.

halle-berry-eliesaab2002Halle Berry’s iconic Elie Saab dress is an Oscar gown to be remembered. The actress wore the dress in 2002 when she became the first African American to win the Best Actress Academy Award.

GwynethPRalph1999Gwyneth Paltrow wore this very pink Ralph Lauren creation in 1999. It divides fashion critics but we think it’s such a fairy tale frock and she wore it so well it deserves a place for being so memorable.

The-ever-graceful-Audrey-Hepburn-collected-a-Best-Actress-Oscar-for-her-movie-debut-in-The-Roman-Holiday-in-this-white-floral-Givenchy-gown-which-clinched-her-tiny-waist-and-highlighted-her-ethereal-beauty-at-1954-Oscar-Step back in time to 1954, Audrey Hepburn wore this beautifully timeless white Givenchy gown to the Academy Awards and won Best Actress too. We can believe that her waist was so tiny!

We love looking back at past frocks, it makes us so excited to see what the stars will be wearing next!
