Pan’s Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro has signed on to produce a film adaptation of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s classic novel ‘The Secret Garden’.

Published first in 1910, Burnett’s novel tells the tale of Mary Lennox, a spoiled ten year old who grows up with her wealthy parents in India. After everyone in her family dies of cholera, she’s sent off to Yorkshire to live with her Uncle, where she discovers a secret garden that’s been locked up tight since her aunt’s death.

The fantasy adventure story was first adapted for the screen in 1919, but del Toro’s reworking will reportedly see it take place in the American South around the turn of the 20th century.

Are you excited for del Toro to work his magic on another fantasy story?
