Uber-passionate Star Wars fans have managed to send a petition backed by more than 34,000 signatures to the White House, urging the government’s defense resoruces to be focused on funding the production of a ‘Death Star’ by 2016.
The tongue-in-cheek move relates to the fictional, planet-sized spacestation used in the iconic film series, which has the capability to destroy a planet with a single laser beam.
However, those getting their hopes up for the dream to become a reality shouldn’t get too excited, as Paul Shawcross, chief of the Science and Space Branch at the White House, has already dismissed the stunt, claiming that the construction of the Death Star would reach an estimated $850,000,000,000,000,000, going on to humourously claim that “the Administration does not support blowing up planets.”
That’s 34,000 very dissapointed Star Wars fans.
