Chinese model Fei Fei Sun has made fashion history to become the first Asian model to grace the cover of Italian style bible, Vogue Italia.
Photographed by Steven Meisel not only is the cover a significant moment for diversity in the fashion industry, but it, along with the accompanying editorial, is downright stunning!
Sun, 23, has also starred in campaigns for Calvin Klein, Valentino and Diesel, as well as featuring on the covers of Chinese Vogue and Elle.
Vogue Italia says of the cover and issue:
“Fusion elegance. The language of style is universal: border-free. Thus, by evoking the exotic and sophisticated allure of China Machado, the fusion icon of the Fifties, a story of elegance and refinement is recounted.”
French Vogue was the first to put a Chinese model on its cover, using Du Juan in a 2011 edition, aforethought neither the UK nor U.S. Vogue has ever had a Chinese cover girl.
Hopefully Vogue Italia‘s latest cover is a sign that that’s changing–and that more covers featuring ethnically diverse models are on their way!
