Last night New York held host to the most fashionable event on any celebrities’ calendar, the Met Costume Institute Gala 2012.
From metallics to canary yellows, slinky black numbers to playful reds, Superstar Magazine takes a look at who wore what best:

These girls went for shimmering metallics and a nipped in waist. Jessica Alba is in Michael Kors, dripping in luxurious gold and grecian pleats. Carey Mulligan opted for a futuristic Prada number, with exquisite sequin detailing and an open back. While Cameron Diaz chose a touch of gatsby glamour in a figure hugging shimmering gown, that stole the show.

No red carpet event would be complete without a selection of midnight black dresses. Rihanna, Rooney and Rosie all hit the spot with their floor length numbers and no nonsense hair-do’s. Rihanna’s snake skin-esque gown fits like a glove, and Rooney get’s it just right with a sheer layer of lace.

Two red’s and a yellow. I couldn’t not show you Solange Knowles’ jaw dropping yellow number. Definately the biggest statement made all night, her sister perhaps should’ve taken a leaf out of her book! Emma Stone keeps things fun in a playful flower power Lanvin dress, while Hilary Swank impressed the crowd in a sultry Michael Kors frock.

And finally, a few silver shimmers that caught our eye. Karolina wowed the world in a sequin dress AND turban, now marked as a legend in the fashion world in Rachel Zoe’s custom-made gold-sequined gown. While Gwyneth Paltrow flaunted her pins and Lana Del Ray kept it vampire-esque in a glitsy dress with a cape to accessorise.
There were SO many we wanted to show you, but these are our favourites! Who do you think was best dressed?!
