Dior Dazzles At Paris Haute Couture Week

Christian Dior followed the sexy and colourful Versace show by putting out a beautiful black and white, filmic Haute Couture collection.

Forgetting the John Galliano troubled past year, acting creative director Bill Gaytten showed off a class act by getting the Dior name back on track.

He had the Christian Dior quote he used at the top of the show notes hand-embroidered in organza on to the skirts of several dresses. ”Elegance must be the right combination of distinction, naturalness, care and simplicity,” it read.

Dior presented an X-ray vision of the fashion house’s history, with a 1950s-themed collection in luminous layers of  sheer silk crepe silhouettes with nipped waists — in shades of beige, aubergine, red, black and white.

The final number was the show stopper of the collection: a floor-length ballgown with a full black-and-white tulle skirt that brushed teasingly past photographers.

Gaytten then came to take his bow and he winked, as he knew that he had produced some solid couture.

“I could show you a picture of every single one of those dresses from the 1950’s. They were all copied. But it worked, it really did,” said British fashion writer Colin McDowell.

It-girl of the moment, Olivia Palermo, summed it up: “Sometimes it’s good to go back to basics.”

Cameron Diaz and Bar Refaeli also attended the show.

We adore this beautiful collection! It looks like Dior is back to its best!
